On August 23, Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer. His children stood by as he was shot, forever traumatized by yet another act of violence against another Black person–in this case, their own father. Not long thereafter, two peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters were murdered while demonstrating in Kenosha.

We are still angry and we are still grieving. We are struggling to understand how any civilized society can accept a system of racism that devalues and dehumanizes lives, and through its inaction, endorses the abuse and murder of its people.

Jacob Blake’s sister, Letetra Widman, said: “When you say the name Jacob Blake, make sure you say father, make sure you say cousin, make sure you say son, make sure you say uncle. But most importantly, make sure you say human.”

We unite as a community committed to educating ourselves and our children to be anti-racist, taking actions to work towards systemic change, and supporting Black Americans. We’ve updated our Anti-Racist Resource List to include links related to the recent events in Wisconsin and hope you’ll find it helpful.
